Landscape Fire Management: A Holistic Approach for Landscape Resilience

Landscape Fire Management (LFM) represents a holistic approach, which takes into account ecological, social, and economic factors. It ensures fire resilience of the landscape and livelihoods that people are dependent on. The LFM integrates fire prevention, risk assessment, and landscape approach.

A fundamental principle of LFM is the active engagement of a wide array of stakeholders through a participatory approach. This approach fosters inclusivity and promotes cross-sectoral and multistakeholder cooperation. To enhance the decision-making regarding landscape fires and to address LFM complexities all relevant stakeholders need to be included. This engagement encompasses the science-practice-policy interface such as scientific experts, industry representatives, researchers, local communities, non-governmental organizations, and governmental bodies. 

The ultimate goal of LFM is to create resilient landscapes that can both withstand and adapt to fires, while simultaneously minimizing adverse impacts on both people and the environment. LFM not only safeguards the landscapes but also the communities dependent on these landscapes.
