LFM guidelines
The Landscape Fire Management guidelines provide a comprehensive framework for effective decision-making in fire prevention, mitigation, and response efforts. These guidelines address key challenges in landscape fire management in Montenegro:
- Promoting the idea of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue’s independence;
- Establishing the Directorate for Protection and Rescue as a separate budgetary unit;
- Enhancing legal regulations, inspection oversight, equipment status and level, management and coordination, early warning systems, insurance policies, and all improvements should align with LFM principles;
- Implementing adaptive measures in key sectors to address climate change, incorporating LFM principles;
- Strengthening preventive measures in forestry practices using LFM;
- Integrating the LFM concept into reforestation and post-fire management;
- Data digitalization;
- Initiating greater planning document development;
- Establishing a civil protection unit;
- Setting up clear information exchange procedures between institutions;
- Developing a fuel material typology;
- Creating a unified database;
- Promoting volunteerism;
- Raising awareness and educating decision-makers;
- Introducing a school subject on fire-related topics into the education system.
